Bloomsburg was one of the towns along the Susquehanna River that
was flooded due to tropical storm Irene and then Lee. Over a hundred
homes were destroyed or damaged.
On September 20th Steve Vaden and Jim Bennington, two of our
ministry workers, pulled into the warehouse of Agape Ministry
in Bloomsburg, PA. Our 24ft. trailer was filled to the brim with
bedding, linens, sofas, kitchen tables, desks, chairs, assorted
kitchen ware, personal hygiene items, coupons for free and discounted
dog food and Christian tracts. The donations came from the churches
in the Shenango Presbytery as well as from many individuals and
Dad’s Pet Foods.
Upon arriving Steve and Jim were greeted by Christine Fuller,
Aileen Sorber, and Arlene Johnson, members of the First Presbyterian
Church of Bloomsburg. This church is within the Synod of the
Trinity. Root International is very grateful to have been chosen
to be the 2012 grant recipient from the Synod of the Trinity
Presbyterian Women.
Janet Locke, also a member of the same church, had contacted
us to inform us of a project they had started for ROOT International.
She was not aware at that time that we were planning a disaster
relief trip to Bloomsburg. I am always amazed how God puts things
together! This was no coincidence; this was God’s timing.
They gave us 75 hand-knitted baby caps to give to Kayenta & Mexico.
Thank you ladies. We appreciate your servant’s hearts.
This trip couldn’t have been made possible without the
financial support we received from several churches as well as
individuals.
Thank you to everyone who gave, and thank you to Steve, Jim,
David, Ariel, Karen and Vicki for the part they played in accomplishing
this mission. God bless you all. |
